William “Bill” Merrill Brittain, 87, of Santa Rosa Beach,  Fla., went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Born Nov. 4, 1938, in Coweta County, Ga., he was the son of the late William Gilbert Brittain and Martha Autry Brittain.  He was a proud graduate of Forest Park High School.  He honorably served his country in the United States Navy before beginning a dedicated career as a Federal Correctional Officer, from which he later retired.  In his free time, he  found great joy in fishing, tending to his garden, and collecting antiques.  He was a faithful member of Village Baptist Church in Destin, where he cherished his church family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Barbara Tipton Brittain; daughters, Kimberly Bias (Jeff) and Dana Barnett (Chris); son, William “Scott” Brittain (Daphne); grandchildren, Rebecca Cannoy (Derek), Jeffrey Robinson, Sarah Barnett (Jesse), Whitney Steele (Matt), Abigail Smith (Larry), Haley Raters (Steven), Nathan Brittain, Taylor Rowady (Davis) and William “Will” Brittain; 11 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; and sister, Paulette Jones (Mike).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Grady Brittain.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

He will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 23 in the Barrancas National Cemetery.
