The Montgomery County Board of Education is conducting interviews for the next superintendent.
Tim Abrams, who has been helping facilitate the search through the Kentucky School Boards Association, told the Advocate he expects the board to announce a hire at its April 28 meeting.
The new superintendent will replace Matt Thompson, who is retiring effective June 30 after 11 years with the district.
A screening committee recommended four candidates to the board from a pool of 14 who applied, Abrams said.
The committee met with the board in closed session April 14 to go over its recommendations, he said. The board then scheduled interviews with the finalists.
The screening committee held several meetings to review the applications and resumes for the candidates over the past few months.
Board Chair Emily Settle was the board representative on the screening committee.
The committee and the board have been operating on confidentiality agreements to protect the identities of the candidates.
A list of finalists has not been announced.
Lacy Carrington Gross served as chair of the screening committee with Katie Buckman as vice chair.
Other members of the committee were Settle, Sandy Jones, Beth Mullins, Taria Booker and Brandy Fouch.
