Sheriff's Office warns about phone scam

 SCAM ALERT 

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports of a phone scam involving individuals falsely identifying themselves as deputies with the Montgomery County Regional Jail.

The callers claim that an incarcerated family member can be released on bond or placed on an ankle monitor in exchange for a payment. Victims are instructed to send money by wire transfer or through a third-party payment service.

These claims are fraudulent.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Regional Jail will never request bond payments by telephone, wire transfer, or any third-party payment service.

All bonds are cash only and must be paid in person at one of the following locations:

• Montgomery County Regional Jail
• Montgomery County Circuit Clerk's Office

If you receive a call of this nature, do not provide any personal or financial information and do not send money. If you believe you have been targeted by this scam, please contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office directly.
