Posted

Sheri Jeanine Blair Shelley, 66, of Fleming Island, Fla., went home Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, after a battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 16, 1960, in Paintsville, she was the daughter of  Elizabeth Carol Dyer Peach of Lexington and the late Lowell Blair. She was a devoted member of River Christian Church in Fleming Island.  She joined the Women’s Life Group and made countless friends that shared numerous activities together.  She ran the Canteen and the Grief Share Group.  She graduated from Montgomery County High School in 1978.  She then graduated from Transylvania University in 1982 with a BA in Business and her Masters Degree of Business was received from University of Central Florida.  She rounded out her academic credentials by getting her CPA license in 1997.  She made her career dream come true working in the IT Department for KPMG, LLC, a worldwide CPA firm.  A colleague shared these words in Loving Memory. Sheri was an integral part of the KPMG Digital Nexus Deltek team since the system’s initial implementation in 2015, serving as its Functional Lead.  For over a decade, she was a pillar of strength, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to the team.  One of the proudest moments of our journey together was the successful transformation of our Deltek platform from an on-premise system to the cloud.   Sheri played an instrumental role in this complex undertaking, bringing her deep functional expertise, determination, and collaborative spirit to every challenge. Our collective efforts culminated in KPMG receiving the 2025 Deltak Enterprise MVP Award in Denver, Colorado—a recognition that Sheri helped make possible and a milestone we will forever associate with her contributions.  After her initial diagnosis of cancer, she elected to have a double mastectomy as a safeguard measure.  That motivated her to have reconstructive breast surgery.  She invented a protective cover to prevent rubbing and chafing for more comfort and a quicker recovery. She wore her homemade invention to the doctor and he was so impressed he partnered with her on this genius invention and they were granted a patent.

In addition to her mother survivors include her husband, Rainer Herbert Shelley; sister, Theresa Jean Blair Castillo (Marcello) of Jeffersonville; brother, Anthony Lowell Blair of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; son-in-law, Brian Duran Woody of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Brionna Destiny Woody, Brittni Desiree Woody, Brian Duran Woody Jr. and Bricen Dane Woody; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Kenneth and Anna Shelley; and her beautiful daughter, Heather Ann Shelley Woody.

Service was conducted Saturday, Oct. 24 at Taul Funeral Home.  Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery.
