Michael Irvine Gibbs, 69, of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born Oct. 11, 1956, in Mt. Sterling, he was the son of Thelma Blevins Gibbs of Richmond and the late Paul Bridges Gibbs. He graduated from Montgomery County High School in 1974 and went on to attend college in West Palm Beach, Fla., and Morris Harvey College, West Virginia, on a basketball scholarship. He retired from the Kentucky State Department of Transportation. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother survivors include his son, Bric (David Haney) Gibbs of Mt. Sterling; daughter, Keely (Paul) Spencer of Mt. Sterling; four grandchildren, Micah Rudd, Phoebe Rudd, Colson Spencer and Benson Spencer, all of Mt. Sterling; brother, Larry Gibbs of Mt. Sterling; and sister, Bridgett Popplewell of Richmond.
Service was conducted Friday, Feb. 20, at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals with Robbie Conn officiating. Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg Gibbs, Bric Gibbs, David Haney, Todd Lowe, Tom Osborne and Brad Toy.
