From London-Laurel Rescue Squad:
On July 9 at approximately 6:15 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched by London-Laurel County 911 Center to Laurel Lake following reports of a male swimmer who had gone underwater and failed to resurface.
The London-Laurel County Rescue Squad responded by deploying two rescue boats and our “Jason Mcvey” remotely operated vehicle (ROV).The device is named after local resident Jason McVey, who died in 2023.
Upon arriving at the swimmer’s last known location, crews immediately began conducting sonar operations while simultaneously deploying the ROV to assist in the search. Utilizing the ROV’s advanced underwater imaging technology, rescue personnel were able to locate and recover the deceased individual in less than 30 minutes after arriving on scene. The London-Laurel County Rescue Squad extends its sincere appreciation to the Bald Rock Fire Department for deploying their boat and assisting with the search and recovery operation.
Assisting on scene was Laurel County Ky. Emergency Management, Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County, Laurel County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
