In an effort to help food banks, local law enforcement will host a “Cram the Cruiser” event Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Walmart.
Law enforcement officers from the Mt. Sterling Police Dept. and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are asking that you bring nonperishable food items of all kinds, with special attention to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
All donated items with go to local food banks to help those in need, the MSPD posted on its social media page.
Police Chief Aaron Noel said the dept. wants to do its part in making sure people have enough to eat in light of recent events.
“In previous years we had done meals for the seniors. This year due to the food shortage all around with SNAP benefits, we feel it’s important this year to focus on the community as a whole,” Noel said.
“Part of our duties are to help protect and serve the community. This is our way of serving the less fortunate and those in need,” he added.
Sheriff David Charles said the sheriff’s office was pleased to participate.
“It’s an honor and a pleasure to help with these vital projects, that is ever more necessary during these tough economic times,” he said. “Our community has always been there in helping those less fortunate. We are blessed to be a part of it.”
The public is asked to bring non-perishable food items only to this event. Among suggested items are canned goods, pasta and rice, juice boxes, cereals and snacks.
Noel noted there will be future events to collect winter items and toys.
