A Jeffersonville man died Thursday night following head injuries suffered when his E-bike reportedly collided with a sign post along U.S. 460 in Jeffersonville, Sheriff David Charles told the Advocate.

Kenny Esteppe, 56, was transported to the University of Kentucky, where he died late Thursday, the sheriff said.

Esteppe was riding the bike south in the 7900 block of Main Street in Jeffersonville when he collided into a sign by a sidewalk, according to Charles.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m.

A motorist reportedly witnessed the accident and called authorities, Charles said.

Esteppe was reportedly not wearing a helmet, the sheriff said.

Electric bicycles can reach speeds of up to about 30 miles per hour, Charles said.

They work through a combination of pedaling and electric power.

Toxicology tests are pending, according to the sheriff.
