Hazel Virginia Eckl, 83, of Troy, Ohio, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit in Troy.
Born April 27, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Paul Wesley and Aora Davis Cline of Mt. Sterling.
She attended Victory Church. She enjoyed reading books, playing Sudoku, watching TV shows and walking downtown with food as a final destination. She also loved spending time with her family. She retired in 2006 from Verizon Corp. where she was a draftsperson for 34 years. In 1976, she was the first woman ground worker to work outdoors on the construction line crew in GTE history.
Survivors include her husband, with whom she was together 51 years, Arthur C. Eckl III; two children, Chuck (Tricia Danis) Schall Jr. and Scott (Shanna) Schall, both of Spring, Texas; step son, Ted Walter of Lebanon, Ohio; brother, James Cline of Mt. Sterling; sister, Linda Welch of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Tami Walter of Lebanon, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Allie (Taylor Stewart) Schall of Beavercreek, Ohio, Austin (Rachel) Schall of Knoxville, Tenn., Kacin Jordan of Spring, Texas, and Chase Walter of Lebanon, Ohio.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings, Rita (Ray) Carter, Polly (James) Combs, Shirley (Elsie) Cline, John (Margaret) Cline, William (Debbie) Cline and Allen “Bowser” (Ella) Davis; sister-in-law, Alta Cline; and brother-in-law, Russel Welch.
Service was conducted Monday, Aug. 10, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy, Ohio. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Troy.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Victory Church or Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.
