Glen Robertson Scott, 62

Posted

Glen Scott’s earthly journey began Oct. 3, 1963, in Eudora, Ark., where he was born to the late Glendora Scott and Johnny Lee.  On June 21, 2026, his quiet and trusted spirit surrendered to God’s will with his wife and children by his side, as he took his last breaths to be with the Lord.  He confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Harrisonburg, Va., under the leadership of the late Rev. Henry Crump.  He was later ordained as a deacon on March 12, 2000, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Coeburn, Va., under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Mabry.  He later joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling and served as chair of the Deacon Board, and church treasurer.  He united in holy matrimony to Valerie Scott on Dec. 25, 1988, and both lived happily and united until his death. This union was blessed with two children, Brandon Scott of Mt. Sterling and Jazzy Scott of Fort Thomas.  After moving from Eudora, Ark., and working at Sunflower Grocery Store, he began his career with the National Forest Service in Rolla, Mo., on the Mark Twain National Forest, and advanced to the George Washington National Forest and the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia, and later to the Daniel Boone National Forest in Eastern Kentucky.  He served as a skilled and experienced forestry technician, forest firefighter, chain saw operator and safety officer, and retired working and managing the beautiful areas in the Red River Gorge on the Daniel Boone National Forest.  He led several building projects including landscaping, and left his mark on many of the gates, picnic tables, trails, kiosk signs, benches and other features.  His work in the forest has been forever memorialized by several photographers who sell their images throughout Kentucky.  He retired in December 2022 with over 33 years of service.  One of the most creative and skilled carpenters in the community, he shared his talents with many, and there are several homes that bear his work.  He was actively involved in the renovation of DuBois Community Center, the new Evergreen Baptist Church on Queen Street, the lifting and renovation of the Evergreen Fellowship Hall on Locust Street, and the recent renovation of the Evergreen Beauty and Barber Shop. He continued to keep all the properties up to his quality standards, and he led yearly Court Day parking fundraisers, church and DuBois workdays, community garden classes, rentals of the DuBois gym and other projects, the Deacon’s Easter Egg Hunt for the children, building of all of the props for Christmas plays and Easter skits and creating Easter and fruit baskets.  While seemingly endless, that is just a short list of all of the ways his hands molded his community to being a better place for all who live there.  He loved helping others and the project that gave him the most joy was picking up tons of food from the food bank to serve the entire community who needed it.

He leaves to cherish in his memory, his loving and devoted wife of over 37 years, Valerie; two sons, Brandon and Jazz; step mother, Bea Lee of Pine Bluff, Ark.; brothers, Robert (Liz) Scott of Stuttgart, Ark. and Clarence (Glenna) Scott of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Trena Lee Sims of Pine Bluff, Ark.; aunt, Lucille Glass of Oak Grove, La.; uncle, Robert (Jean) Lee of Hamburg, Ark.; and a host of nieces, cousins, and many friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Glendale “Tiny Man” Haynes.

Final celebration of life will be held at noon, Friday, July 3, at the Ministers Institute, 1329 Front St., in Eudora, Ark.  Burial will be in Hill Cemetery.
