Gary Robert Hutson, 86, of Mt. Sterling, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Friday, July 24, 2026, after a short battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Born March 10, 1940, in Fort Smith, Ark., he was the son of the late Dorothy (Logue) Cooper and Jerald Robert Hutson.  A faithful member of Christian Assembly of God, he devoted his life to serving God, loving his family, and investing in the lives of others.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Esther Lavern Hutson; sisters, Dora Lane Pearcy (Merl) of Fort Smith, Ark. and Connie Gregory of Hot Springs, Ark.; son, Jim Hutson (Cheryl) of Kissimmee, Fla.; daughter, Jennifer Pendleton (Charles) of Mt. Sterling; son, Christopher Hutson of Dallas, Texas; stepson, Robert Van Savage (Christine) of Bailey, N.C.; grandsons, Charles A. Pendleton of Wilmington, Ohio and Samuel R. Pendleton of Panama City, Fla.; granddaughters, Megan Bennett of Texas, Chelsea Hutson of South Carolina, Madison Van Savage-Maben (Alex) and Macey Van Savage, both of North Carolina and Lily Pendleton of Mt. Sterling; three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss his kindness, good humor and wise counsel.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step son, Richard Van Savage; and grandson, Richard Hutson.

Though he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, his family rejoices in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and finds comfort knowing they will see him again.

Service was conducted Saturday, Aug. 1, at Christian Assembly of God.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C., 28607.

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.  –John 17:3
