Free small ice cream cones to be offered at upcoming event!

Posted

The Mt. Sterling Police Dept. is reaching out to the community’s young people with their first Ice Cream with a Cop event planned for 10:30 a.m.-noon Friday, Aug. 7, at Dairy Queen.

Each school age child will receive a small ice cream cone.

Lt. Michael Price said the event is a community outreach similar to the Coffee with a Cop events they have been holding, but targeted specifically toward children.

“This is a great opportunity to meet and talk with our officers before the next school year begins,” the dept. posted on social media announcing the event. “Whether you have questions, concerns or simply want to enjoy ice cream and conversation, we would love to see you there.”

“We look forward to connecting with our community,” the post adds.

Price said youths sometimes get misguided ideas of what police do through movies and social media and the dept. wants to show that the MSPD is there to help.

Building positive relationships with young people helps take away any apprehension about interaction with officers, he said.

Price said the dept. will also be handing out popsicles at the aquatic center before the swim season ends as well as part of their outreach efforts.
