From the city of Mt Sterling
As we near America’s 250th Birthday celebration, please remember that the City of Mount Sterling has an ordinance in place (Ordinance #5-2017) to guide the use of fireworks within the city limits.
- Fireworks must be possessed and used in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local law.
- Fireworks, consumer fireworks, and display fireworks may be used, ignited, fired, or exploded within the city limits on the following dates and times:
JULY 1 (WEDNESDAY) from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
JULY 2 (THURSDAY) from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
JULY 3 (FRIDAY) from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
JULY 4 (SATURDAY) from 10:00 AM to 12:30 AM on July 5th
JULY 5 (SUNDAY) from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
JULY 6 (MONDAY) from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
JULY 7 (TUESDAY) from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
- Non-aerial fireworks, meaning ground and hand-held sparkling devices that produce showers of color, move along the ground, and/or produce smoke but have no sound effect as a feature, may be used without restriction.
- No person may use, ignite, fire, or explode any fireworks, consumer fireworks, and/or display fireworks within 200 feet of any structure, motor vehicle (whether operational or non-operational), or any other person, or in any place where a person is in violation of any other law, regulation, or ordinance.
- Any person using, igniting, firing, or exploding any fireworks or consumer fireworks shall be responsible for disposing of any resultant trash or debris.
- Permits may be obtained for celebrations outside of this window. Please contact City Hall for details.
