Charles Ray Orme, 90, of Mt. Sterling, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at Windsor Care Center.
Born March 22, 1935, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Henry and Lucille Thomas Orme. He was baptized in the Christian faith. He was a farmer, Vice President of Eastern Kentucky Draft Horse Association, harness maker and well-known teamster of Belgian Draft Horses. He worked horses religiously daily on the farm, always made a point to never miss the Mt. Hope sale every spring and fall. He was dedicated to his family, touched a lot of lives and never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of almost 69 years, Ruth Wells Orme, and they never parted without saying, “I love you”; sons, Mike Orme (Pam) of Mt. Sterling and Charlie Orme (Dottie) of Mt. Sterling; daughter, Sandy Orme Corbin of Mt. Sterling; sister, Dollie Cassidy (Don) of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren, Shannon Behnken (Jason), Nikki Back, Stacy White (Sean), Clint Orme, April Walters (Shane), Sean Corbin (Amanda), Mandi “ Little Ruthie” Bailey (Wade), Josh Orme (Jacque), Tyler Orme (Donna), John Orme (Chelsea) and Stephanie Lykins; great-grandchildren, Alexis Behnken, Caleb Behnken, Jake White, Jordan “Cochise” White, Jack Walters, Max Walters, Brighton Corbin, Miles Corbin, Olivia Hall, Emma “Little Granny Lucille” Hall, Preston Darst, Kendall Orme-Bailey, Luci Bailey, Tristen Bailey, Riley Orme, Kaylie Orme, Kourtney Orme, Cristina Orme, Bethany Orme, Mason Orme, Taylor McCarty and Peyton McCarty; son-in-law, Barry Back of Mt. Sterling; special friends, Chad Curran, Mike Atkins, Ralph Atkins, Ryland Moore, Thurman Mullet and Frank Brown; and a host of friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sons, Mark Orme and his wife, Ida “Pinky”, and Charles Orme II; daughter, Janet Orme Back; brothers, Billy Orme and Tommy Orme; son-in-law, Walter Corbin; and sister, Carolyn Donithan.
Service was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Burton, Gist Howell and Sean Corbin officiating. Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clint Orme, Josh Orme, Sean Corbin, Sean White, Tyler Orme, John Orme, Jack Walters, Jake White, Preston Darst, Max Walters, Mason Orme and Jordan White.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Brown, Ryland Moore, Mike Atkins, Jeff Yarber, James Willoughby, Jackie Ellis, Mike Downs, Sonny Fawns, David Lee Jones, Doyle King, Chad Curran, Michael Burton, Thurman Mullet, Steve Mullet, Robert Williams, Devin Atkins, Phillip Fawns, “Sterling Girls” at Windsor Care Center, Kevin Klaunch, Gerald Klaunch, James Kenney, Doug Dawson, Gary Orme and Tina Garland.
