Chandra Nadine Brown Handy, 72, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, after an extended illness.
Born June 8, 1954, she was the daughter of Athlene Brown and the late Odus Brown. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Menifee County School District, where her dedication and warm presence touched many in the community. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Gateway Christian Church. Outside of work and church, she found true happiness in nature. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Allen Handy. Though she had no biological children, survivors include her niece, Carolyn Perkins (Nicholas), whom she helped raise and loved entirely as her own daughter. In addition to her mother she is also survived by brother, Foy Brown (Darlena); cherished grandbabies, Presley Rowsey, Chloe Rowsey and Blaine Melton, who affectionately knew and loved her as their “Mimi”; loving niece, Rebakah Goodpaster and Josh; nephew, Daniel Hollon and Tiffany; several loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; large extended family of cousins; and several special friends and former coworkers, including Vonda Stamm, Connie McVey, Mary Jo Hatton and Diane Willoughby.
In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her niece, Kayla Brown.
Service was conducted Thursday, Aug. 13, at Gateway Christian Church with Pastor Bill Kilgore, Bro. Glenn Emory and Pastor Seth Lawson offering messages of love and comfort for the family and friends. Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers were friends.
