The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln were among those who addressed the Montgomery County Board of Education meeting Feb. 24.
Students took on the roles of some famous figures as part of a Student Demonstration of Learning as part of the School Spotlight segment of the meeting.
The presentation to the board was part of what the school is calling the Living Wax Museum, a history project for fourth grade students.
Alex Puckett provided a detailed, step-by-step overview of the assignment and explained the criteria students were required to meet according to a rubric, a social media post said.
Camargo Principal Dudley McKenna and teacher Tammy Jo White, who is leading the effort, said the project teaches history and instills self confidence in the students.
The students are empowered to choose a person of interest they feel a connection with and conduct research on their lives, McKenna and White said.
From there the students write the copy for a slide show illustrating their research and talk about what they learned, White said.
McKenna said she was very proud of the students, some of whom could not speak in front of a class before taking part in the project.
Korbyn Keath presented as Martin Luther King Jr. and Lincoln Stamps brought history to life as Abraham Lincoln.
Board members Allie Webb and Carmella Fletcher Green commended the students on their performance and said they were encouraged by what they witnessed.
McKenna and White also discussed the student-driven Learning Lift Conference, which provides students with more ownership in meeting their educational goals.
