Bluegrass Greensource celebrates 25 years of environmental impact with kickoff event; Botts to be among those to give remarks

LEXINGTON, KY — March 18, 2026 — Bluegrass Greensource, Central Kentucky’s leading environmental education and outreach nonprofit, invites the community to join in celebrating a major milestone: 25 years of empowering the Bluegrass to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment. The 25th Anniversary Kickoff Event will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the Mirror Twin Annex, 720 National Ave., Lexington, KY.

The evening will include an official proclamation honoring Bluegrass Greensource’s 25 years of service, issued by Lexington’s Mayor Linda Gorton at 6pm. Brief remarks will follow from a distinguished group of community partners and champions:

  • Mayor Al Botts, City of Mt. Sterling, KY

  • Kristy Segebarth, M.S., NBCT, Intervention Teacher and SBDM Secretary, Millcreek Elementary

  • Jared Bickel, Bespoken Spirits

  • Ben Browning, Terracon

“This milestone is a testament to the power of small changes making a big impact,” said [Executive Director Name], Bluegrass Greensource. “For 25 years, we have been privileged to work alongside schools, businesses, farmers, and neighbors across 20 counties to protect the environment we all share. This celebration is for every person who has been part of that journey.”

Since its founding in 2001, Bluegrass Greensource has served communities across 20 counties in Central Kentucky through youth environmental education, community outreach, watershed improvement, and business sustainability programs. In 2025 alone, the organization logged 22,219 total community interactions, delivered 757 lessons, conducted 19 Main Street Clean Sweep events, hosted 220 attendees at the Sustainability Summit and Business Forum, and presented 17 events at the Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary. Program highlights included 90 energy efficiency activities reaching 2,559 people, 62 recycling activities reaching 3,200 people, 221 water quality activities reaching 5,792 people, and 225 preschool activities reaching 3,281 young learners.

The kickoff event marks the beginning of a yearlong series of anniversary celebrations, programs, and initiatives recognizing Bluegrass Greensource’s quarter-century of service to the Bluegrass region. Attendance is free and open to the public.
