Beshear: Team Kentucky members work through night to process partial SNAP benefits

Posted
Team Kentucky filed a lawsuit that has secured a ruling that requires the federal government to fund November SNAP benefits. However, November SNAP benefits will be reduced.

Just this morning, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said "Members of Team Kentucky worked through the night to process the partial SNAP benefits released by the federal administration. Here in Kentucky, we want to fight hunger, and we're doing everything we can to help our neighbors who rely on this program."

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services is working to load November available benefits to EBT cards. Individuals should begin seeing the reduced benefits added to their EBT card over the next few days.

What you need to know:

  • There may be a delay in getting your November benefits on your card.
  • The amount of your November benefit will be less than usual. In a social media post by the Dept. for Community Based Services, it says benefits will be reduced by about 50 percent.
  • Check your balance on your EBT card before heading to the store.
  • You can keep using any benefits already on your EBT card.
  • This issue does not affect your eligibility for SNAP.

DCBS offices are open and still taking and processing applications.

To ensure Kentuckians have access to food over the next few days, Gov. Beshear signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency and directed an initial $5 million from the budget reserve trust fund to Feeding Kentucky food banks.

The Sterling Community Food Coalition shared on social media yesterday the public should dress appropriately "as you must wait outside until your turn. Especially families bringing small children."
