Benefit concert for arts center

Posted

Tickets are on sale now for a concert to benefit the Gateway Regional Arts Center.

The concert, featuring Mojo Thunder, will be 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the arts center. All proceeds go to benefit the GRAC.

Special guests will be the Bedford Band.

Band guitarist Bryson Willoughby, who has family in Montgomery County, said to expect a loud show full enthusiasm.

“We pull out all the stops,” Willoughby told the Advocate. “It’s a great show.”

According to a band bio, “Mojo Thunder is the combination of pop sensibilities, thoughtful lyrics and shamelessly loud rock and roll. Self described with a smirk as music for ‘socially conscious townies,’ the guys bring their working class ethos to the stage and deliver a field party approved performance worth the price of admission. It’s the sound of resistance for regular people with songs about life, love and the struggles of everyday life. They have played over 200 shows across nine different countries.”

Willoughby describes the southern rock band as a cross between REM and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The band recently shot a video at the GRAC and wanted to repay the favor by helping the center. The video is for a song, “Memphis,” off “The Infinite Hope” album that is now out.

The band will premiere some new music in Mt. Sterling, Willoughby said.

GRAC Executive Director Jordan Campbell said federal funding cuts make the benefit important to the arts center.

“It’s important for us to showcase to our community, when you support the arts this is what happens, people are successful and go on to great things like touring the world.”

He noted the concert will go to support programming across the community.

Tickets are $20. They are available at the arts center, https://www.grackentucky.org and by phone at 859-498-6264. If tickets are still available, they will be sold at the door.

Campbell encourages the public to not wait and get them now while they are still available. He’s expecting a sellout.
