From Montgomery County Emergency Management

FORECAST ISSUED: 7 PM EDT Sunday, 6/21/2026
Good evening,

A low pressure center and associated cold front will move into the region overnight and Monday, with the cold front expected to pass through eastern Kentucky Monday evening. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of eastern Kentucky to a Slight Risk for severe weather on Monday due to the severe wind gust potential for storms that develop ahead of the approaching cold front. The Weather Prediction Center has also included much of south-central and eastern Kentucky in a Slight Risk for Monday due to the heavy rainfall potential.
See the Weather Highlights/Impacts and attached DSS Packet for further details.

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS / IMPACTS:
Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms will impact eastern Kentucky overnight and again Monday.

The first will be a dying cluster of storms that will move into portions of eastern Kentucky around midnight, and continue diminishing and moving eastward overnight.
The second will develop during the afternoon hours on Monday, ahead of the approaching cold front, continuing into Monday evening.
There is still quite a bit of uncertainty, especially in tonight's severe potential, as it will really depend on how storms to our west and northwest evolve through the evening.

Strong to locally damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours leading to heavy rain and flash flood risk are the primary hazards. The risk is highest across eastern Kentucky during the round of storms Monday afternoon/evening.

Isolated to scattered flash flooding is possible if/where storms move repeatedly over the same locations, and over areas that were impacted by heavy rain at the end of last week.

Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
