Be weather aware! Severe storms expected in Ky tonight; flood watch in effect

Posted

From the Ky Transportation Dept:
Heads up, we’ve got strong to severe storms heading into Kentucky this evening through tomorrow. Here’s what you need to know

- Two rounds of storms will occur tonight and tomorrow morning.

- Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible, along with excessive rainfall.

- Excessive runoff from rain may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other flood-prone areas.

- Turn around, don’t drown!

- Grip the steering wheel, leave space near large trucks, and slow down on wet roads.

From Montgomery County Emergency Management:

A Flood Watch is now in effect late tonight into early Thursday for locations near and north of I-64.

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS / IMPACTS:
A line of potentially strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to reach portions of eastern KY between 2 and 6 AM EDT.

Damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours will be the primary hazards with these storms late tonight.

Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, especially for locations near and south of the Mountain Parkway.

These later storms could be strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts being the primary hazard.

Storms with torrential rain could lead to isolated to perhaps scattered flash flooding if they move repeatedly over the same areas.

The location, magnitude, and timing of the strong to severe thunderstorm and excessive rainfall risk will continue to evolve. Continue to monitor forecasts for the latest information as the potential event nears.
