Additional snow forecast for Friday; students on snow day No. 6

Posted

The Jeffersonville, Mt. Sterling and Camargo areas are included in a winter weather advisory in effect from 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, through 6 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

Total snow accumulations of around an inch are forecast for most locations, with isolated amounts of up to 2 inches possible.

Montgomery County Schools students are out of the classroom again tomorrow, with Friday, Feb. 6, being snow day No. 6.

In a message to families and staff, Superintendent Matt Thompson said, "There has been progress made. There are now fewer students impacted by the inaccessible turnarounds, however, there are still too many."

With additional snow forecast, Thompson said the district wanted to let families know as soon as possible about Friday's snow day.

The district is planning on moving forward with school Monday, Feb. 9.

"The number of impacted students will have decreased to where we can implement alternate bus stops, for some students, if needed. It is possible that we will need to contact individual families to set up alternate bus stop locations if we cannot get to you due to a turnaround issue. Those notifications will be made by Sunday evening. It is also possible that we may need to call an hour delay on Monday but that decision will be made either late Sunday or very early on Monday. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on that."

As it stands now, even with all NTI days being utilized and six snow days Thompson the last day for students this school year remains in May.

"Additional school closures as we go through February and March may impact that but we are still ok as of now," Thompson said.

The Montgomery County Board of Education has special session set for tonight at 6 p.m. at the Clay Center. Among topics are discussion and possible action of a school make-up day March 6. Presidents' Day is also being utilized for makeup.
