More than 50 people gathered May 7 at the Montgomery County Courthouse to observe National Day of Prayer.

The participants offered prayers on a local, state and national level.

Ken Aldhizer, who led the opening prayer, encouraged the group to repurpose the acronym "MAGA" to mean "Make America Godly Again" free of politics.

Pastor Neil Salvaterra gave the keynote address. He encouraged the public to turn to prayer in all things and to thank God for all he has done for each of us.

Montgomery Judge-Executive Chris Haddix prayed for local government and the people who will be taking elected office.

Joey Bates prayed for military and first responders; Meshach Lawson prayed for the media; Adam Patton for businesses; Shaunna Patton for education; Lily Pendleton for churches; and Evangel Hernandez for family.

The participants also sang several songs. The National Anthem was also sung and the pledge of allegiance recited.

American Legion Post 22 participated in the service and provided flags for the occasion.

The event was organized locally by Jennifer Pendleton.
