Rickey Carl Hancock, 67

February 07, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rickey Carl Hancock,  67, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, who departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025.
Born Aug. 4, 1957, in Eubank, he was the son of the late Carl and Josie Hart Hancock.  He was baptized in the Baptist faith at the tender age of 12, in Eubank.  Raised in a close-knit community, he graduated from Eubank High School in 1975 and furthered his education at Morehead State University.  He dedicated his career as a materials manager in the healthcare industry, bringing his expertise and work ethic to the field until his retirement.  His life was marked by his passions and interests.  He was an avid reader who cherished his visits to the Montgomery County Public Library, often humorously noted by his family for “always having that nose of his in a book.” His love for Bluegrass music and fishing brought him joy, as did his time spent with friends and family.  A Kentucky Colonel, he had a jovial and light-hearted spirit, using humor to defuse tension and brighten the lives of those around him.  His legacy will continue through the warmth of his family and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Ruth Stephenson Hancock; two sons, Jared Hancock and Brian Hancock; sister, Holly Stringer (Gene); brother, Phillip Hancock; doggos, Wiley and Ladybug; his “3rd son,” Thomas Conlee; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gregory Hancock and Marshall Hancock.
Service will be conducted at 12 noon, Friday, Feb. 7, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Wells officiating.  Visitation will be 10:30 a.m.-noon, Friday.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Rickey’s memory to the Montgomery County Public Library, 328 North Maysville St., Mt. Sterling, Ky., 40353.
As we come together to honor Rickey, let us remember him not only for his achievements and wit but for the love he instigated and the laughter he spread throughout his life.
