Howard Lloyd Latimer, 86, of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at home.
Born Dec. 11, 1938, in Conway, Mo., he was the son of the late Howard and Iris Latimer. Known to his family and friends as Judge, he had a passion for basketball and would stay after school most days to play in his school’s gym. Later, his passion grew into a love for UK basketball. After attending Baptist Bible College, he was called to Louisville in 1972 to minister, then to Mt. Sterling in 1973, where he built Emmanuel Baptist Church, and served as the pastor there for over 50 years. He was a dedicated pastor who loved his church and congregation, and he cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was delighted by his great-grandchildren, incredibly proud of his family, and a humble servant of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Judy Alexander Latimer; daughter, Janet Sargent (Johnnie Dicken); sons, Jay (Angie) and Jim (Vicki); grandchildren, Renee’ Spencer (Caleb), Lindsay Latimer (Jason Jackson), Chas Sargent (Julissa), Alicia Latimer, Elizabeth Latimer (Mike O’Regan), Dana Latimer, Emily Latimer, Jacob Latimer and Alex Latimer; great-grandchildren, Hallie, Connor, Hagen, Michael, Lydia, Emery Kate, Benjamin, Henry and Charlotte; sisters Mary Bowman, June Dailey, Helen Swindler and Carolyn Kelly, all of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
