DYW Program to be held Saturday

Montgomery County’s Distinguished Young Women Program 2023 will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, in the auditorium at Montgomery County High School.

The program begins at 6 p.m.; doors open at 5:30 p.m. For tickets, please reach out to Lindsay Maples at lindsay.maples@montgomery.kyschools.us.

Tickets are $10.

Each year, nearly $10,000 in cash scholarships are earned by winners in various categories. The funds are paid directly to the higher education institution that each participant plans to attend.

Community support is critical to the success of the program and the success of the individuals participating, organizers say. Montgomery County’s program has been in tact more than 50 years.

Participants include Caitlyn Kiper, Olivia Burton, Megan Allen, Molly Barker, Maddie Brother, Kentlee Patrick, Maci Jo Power, Lauren Beasley, Alexis Trent, Lily Conn, Emily Zink, Hallie Conley, Sophia Wright.
Participants are judged in the following categories:

• Scholastics 25 percent
• Interview 25 percent
• Talent 20 percent
• Fitness 15 percent
• Self Expression 15 percent.

Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. Distinguished Young Woman strives, according to program information, to give every young woman the opportunity to further their education and prepare for a successful future. Shayna Garrett was Montgomery County’s DWY 2022.
