The Montgomery County Indians posted five more wins on the diamond this past week, improved their record to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in district play.

And in the process set a new school record for consecutive wins in the program and then extended that record out to 15 Monday evening with a win over Bourbon County at Paris.

The Indians started the week with a 10-1 record and then beat Lewis County and Paris early last week before they knocked off Prestonsburg Saturday morning at Bobby Joe Whitaker Field to break the record for consecutive wins set by the 1987 team.

The got another win Saturday, 10-7, over visiting McCreary Central.
They followed that up with the win over Bourbon County Monday.
Here’s a recap of the games played this past week in the reverse order that the games were played:

MCHS 3,
Bourbon County 1
Junior left-hander Tyler Jacobs earned his fifth win without a loss this season as he stymied the Colonels on five hits to help the Tribe post a 3-1 win at the Bourbon County field.

Jacobs allowed just one run, and that was unearned. Jacobs gave up five hits while striking out nine and not walking anyone. Junior right-hander Seth Adams came on to pick up a save. When the Greyhounds loaded the bases in the final inning with two outs, Adams came in and threw three pitches to strike out the final batter of the game.

The victory improved Montgomery County’s record to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in 40th District action while Bourbon County fell to 10-4 and 1-1 in district play. In addition to rematches with Montgomery County and Paris the Colonels still have two games remaining with Clark County.

Both teams threatened in the first inning but didn’t score and then the Indians scored a run in the second inning on a trio of Bourbon County errors.

After yielding a pair of hits in the first inning but getting out of a jam, Jacobs settled down and retired 13 batters in a row before Chazz Baker reached on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning. By that time the Tribe had 3-0, having scored in the fifth on a Brandon Dyer single and two more errors by the Colonels.

In the sixth inning, junior third baseman Seth Adams drilled a double to right-center field and scored on a base hit to left by Jay Eads to complete the Montgomery County scoring.

Bourbon County junior Braxton Earlywine allowed eight hits and three runs, but only one earned run. He struck out three and walked one.
The Colonels scored their run in the bottom of the sixth when Baker reached on an error, stole second and scored on a base hit by Earlywine.
Cameron Brady led off the seventh inning with a single and after Seth Greenlee was safe on a fielder’s choice where the Indians couldn’t make a play, Shane Crump singled to load the bases.

Jacobs retired the next batter on an infield fly and then Adams came on and struck out Earlywine on three pitches.

Senior Ty Eads returned to the lineup from an injury and had a pair of singles and twin brother Jay also had two of the Tribe’s eight hits.
Brandon Dyer had a perfect day at the plate, laying down two sacrifice bunts and adding a couple of singles. Tyler Jacobs also had a base hit that did not figure into any of the scoring plays for the Indians.
Montgomery County and Bourbon County will play again in April 29 at Bobby Joe Whitaker Field.

MCHS 10,
McCreary Central 7
The Indians won a see-saw battle with the Raiders Saturday night at Bobby Joe Whitaker Field.

The Raiders scored three runs in the top of the first inning when the Indians committed three errors.

But the Tribe came right back to get five in the bottom of the first.
Devin Johnson had a two-run double and Jay Eads also had a two-run two-bagger with Trevor Igo driving in the fifth run with a base hit.

After a couple of scoreless innings the Indians added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth stanza.

Brandon Dyer singled with one out, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Tyler Jacobs that followed a walk to Luke Fuller.

Both Fuller and Jacobs scored on a single by Seth Adams.
McCreary Central close the gap to 8-6 with three runs in the top of the fifth and then added another run in the top of the sixth.

Montgomery County got a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when Jay Eads delivered a two-out, two-run single.
Sophomore Spencer Donithan started the game for Montgomery County and allowed three runs on three hits over three innings but all three of the runs were unearned.

Senior Luke Fuller entered the game in the fourth and allowed three runs on four singles in the fifth. When Fuller gave up a lead-off single to Evan Kidd to start the McCreary Central sixth inning, senior Seth Adams came on in relief.

Adams allowed a single before he retired the final five batters he faced to end the game.

The Indians finished with 12 hits including three by Jay Eads and two each by Dyer, Jacobs, Devin Johnson and Seth Adams.
McCreary Central had nine hits with Grant Hamner collecting three of those.

MCHS 10, Prestonsburg 0
Sophomore right-hander Payton Carroll tossed a three hit shutout to lead the Indians over the Blackcats.

Carroll was never in any serious trouble and didn’t allow a runner to reach third base in the six-inning contest. He did not strike out a batter but the Indians played error-free defense behind him with shortstop Brandon Dyer turning a 6-3 double play, shortstop to first base, in the final inning.

All three hits Carroll allowed were singles and he hit a batter but didn’t allow any walks.

The Indians took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when they struck for six runs with only one out to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Coach Chris Varney shuffled his line-up with Luke Fuller playing second base, Braxton Hunley moving to first from behind the plate and Nick Huff catching.

Fuller had a perfect day
