Local man facing multiple charges after pursuit by Fish and Wildlife officers

A Jeffersonville man was arrested last Friday after taking Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife officers on a chase near Calk Lake.

The incident began about noon when two officers approached a vehicle at Shell Mart in Jeffersonville after being notified by another agency that the driver may be wanted, dept. spokesman Kevin Kelly told the Advocate.

The officers pulled up and announced themselves, but the suspect reportedly struck their vehicle and fled, Kelly said.
A pursuit ensued for approximately five miles before the suspect reportedly let a woman out of the vehicle and soon after struck a telephone pole, he said.

The suspect reportedly traveled another 25 yards before coming to a stop in a field, Kelly said.

The suspect reportedly attempted to flee on foot before he was apprehended by officers, he said.

The suspect was identified as Scotty Allen Jones, 47. He faces a number of charges.

The charges include first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (heroin), possession of marijuana, first, second and third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment-police officer, first-degree fleeing and evading police (on foot) and first-degree fleeing and evading (motor vehicle), as well as failure to appear in court.

Jones is being held at the Montgomery County Regional Jail in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond out of Webster County and a $25,000 cash bond on the Montgomery County charges.

Fish and Wildlife officers handled the call because they are required to make an arrest just like any other law enforcement officer when they come into contact with someone with an outstanding warrant, Kelly said.
