Home total loss in fire

By Tom Marshall
Senior Advocate writer

A home on Whitaker Lane was a total loss after a fire erupted early Wednesday morning.

The home at 1411 Whitaker Lane was fully involved when firefighters arrived, Montgomery County Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Robin Barber said.

A passerby on Camargo Road reported seeing a glow on Whitaker Lane and found the fire when he went to investigate, Barber said.

The call came in at 2:58 a.m.

Barber said the fire was through the roof of the one- story home by the time firefighters got there.

Firefighters spent about three hours working the blaze, he said. The home is considered a total loss.

The whole house was rolling so firefighters were not immediately able to determine the origin of the fire inside the home, Barber said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. No injuries were reported.
The home belonged to Mike Cole, the son of former Cole Ford owner Arthur Cole. He was staying with his mother on Camargo Road at the time of the fire and the home was unoccupied, Barber said.

Mike Cole’s daughter, however, had lived there at one time, he said.
Fourteen personnel responded to the fire and seven or eight vehicles, Barber said.
