Small child reportedly found in haze of marijuana

Mt. Sterling Police reportedly found a small child in a haze of marijuana smoke Monday when they served a search warrant at a home in Madison Springs.

Police reportedly seized about a half pound of marijuana, hundreds of hits of a highly concentrated form of marijuana called “Dabs,” a large sum of cash, a handgun, an AK-47 and an AR-15. Police also reportedly recovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Three people were arrested.

The three were Daron Blake Miller, 22, Courtney Paige Adkins, 18, and Damion Scott Caudill, 21, all of Mt. Sterling. They were all charged with first-degree trafficking in marijuana and first-degree wanton endangerment for reportedly endangering the child.

All three were lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.
The investigation started after patrol officers responded to another call in the area and reportedly smelled marijuana in the street emanating from the home, MSPD Det./Sgt. Jimmy Daniels said.

Patrol officers conducted a “knock and talk” and reportedly confirmed that the home was the source of the marijuana smell, Daniels said.
Detectives then obtained a search warrant, which they served just after midnight, he said.

“It was a complete haze” of marijuana smoke when officers went inside, police claim.

That’s when police reportedly seized the drugs, cash and weapons.
Dabs are a new, highly concentrated form of marijuana processed using a solvent like butane that is growing in popularity, Daniels said. Butane, he noted, can be volatile and dangerous.

The dabs were reportedly packaged to look like medical marijuana, Daniels said. The drug can cause a number of health-related problems, including overdose, he said.

The child was turned over to the Dept. for Social Services and then handed over to its grandparents.
