A Carlisle woman was sentenced to five years in prison last Friday in connection with a fatal traffic accident in 2015.

Jenny Rebecca Pelfrey, 43, was allegedly under the influence of drugs when she caused a traffic accident that killed Earl Manley, 86, of Sharpsburg, June 17, 2015.

Pelfrey was initially charged with murder, but the charge was amended to second-degree manslaughter in exchange for her guilty plea.
Montgomery County Circuit Judge Beth Maze followed the recommendation of the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office in setting the sentence, which also included 30 days for operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

The recommendation was reached after a mediation between prosecutors and the defense in which the sentence was negotiated.
Manley was killed in a traffic accident that occurred on Maysville Road at the intersection of Bunker Hill and Van Thompson roads near the Judy store.

Authorities claim Pelfrey was driving erratically and crossed the center line before she struck Manley’s vehicle.
Blood samples taken from Pelfrey reportedly showed the presence of hydrocodone and xanax in her system, according to the previous testimony of a detective involved in the case.

Authorities reportedly found a pill crusher, syringes and straws inside her vehicle.
