Bass Webb trial appears a go for Sept. 6

The Bass Webb murder trial is scheduled to get under way Sept. 6 in Rowan County Circuit Court.

No foreseen delays were reported during a status hearing in the case last Thursday, Montgomery County Commonwealth Attorney Ronnie Goldy told the Advocate.

“Everything looks like it’s a go,” Goldy said.

Webb will be going on trial for the alleged murder of ex-girlfriend Sabrina Marie Vaughn. She was allegedly strangled to death at an apartment in Jeffersonville and buried in a shallow grave in Powell County.

At last week’s hearing Webb attracted attention for several new tattoos on his head.

One read “Kill Rats.” There was also a list that says “Those That Must Die.” It includes all judges, prosecutors, the media and cops. There also three rats tattooed on his head crossed out, among other ones. On the other side of his head is an explicit message.

Webb got the tattoos while incarcerated at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty.

Vaughn disappeared in 2003. Her body was found in 2010 after Jonathan French led investigators to the remains, which he allegedly disposed of with Webb.

The trial was moved from Montgomery County for allegedly excessive media coverage.

Webb is already serving a 50-year sentence for the murder of another former girlfriend, Bryia Runiewicz, in Harrison County.

Webb has also been sentenced to 37 years for trying to run over two Bourbon County jail employees in 2009.
Authorities found Runiewicz dead shortly after that incident.
